My lectionary group met this morning, and there’s always a bit of check-in. My contribution was that I’m looking for secular work to support my eating and indoor-sleeping habit. The others agreed that pastoral ministry teaches you a lot of skills that are useful in the secular workplace.
I’ve (obviously) found a few. A group member charged me with making a list of as many of these skills as possible, and now I charge you the same way.
I’ll post what I come up with in a follow-up, but I know that many, many, many clergy are looking for work “on the outside” (and many do quite well) that this really could be a useful task.
Put them in the comments. Remember: the job you describe might be your own.
