This isn’t a tell-all; this is more about church websites!
OK, I’m gay, and y’all know that. (Right?) I won’t knowingly support something that’s anti-gay. (No more shopping in Virginia!) I want to attend a church where I don’t have to tip-toe: neutrality is OK, support is better. The latter is the attitude I’ve come across on many UU congregational websites.
OK, I’m gay, and y’all know that. And I demand a certain level of design if I’m being courted. And, eek!, there are some old-school graphics out there. Rainbow flags and tip-down triangles are widely known, but are rather tired. What’s a church to do?
Fortunately, there are a couple of congregational sites that do a good job of projecting gay-affirmation tastefully. The trick is these sites have a harmonized color scheme, and so the little rainbow flag graphics pop out.
The former is from the Unitarian Universalist Church of Chattanooga (Tenn.) and the latter is Keene Unitarian Universalist Church (N.H.). Good going. The little image popped out almost immediately. Other congregations have similiar tiny images. (Now, if the Tennessee church can carry this through to the subordinate page. Later. Their web-person writes in. See the comments.)
Plus, the ambiguous “Welcoming Congregation” term is effectively defined.
Clever; good going.
Thanks for the nice words. I grandfathered a few pages from the previous format (including the subordinate page you mentioned) because I am working alone on the project and my time is very limited. Lord willin’ and the creek don’t rise, I’ll turn my attention to those pages left from the old format in due time.
We have “Welcoming Congregation on our website. Where can I get a rainbow flag?
