Howard Clinebell died

Table of Content

Howard Clinebell has died. This professor of pastoral care wrote textbook used (known simply as "the Clinebell") at my seminary, and was synonymous to learning pastoral care itself. Seems fitting to mark his passing.

He made others' deaths (and lives) a bit easier, after all.

Thanks to Katherine at Any Day a Beautiful Change for reporting the news.

  1. Howard was both a teacher and a friend of mine. I mourn his passing. Thank you for providing me with a bit more information than Charlotte (his wife of many years) sent me.

  2. I just recently heard about Howard’s death from T Willard Hunter.
I wondered why he hadn’t answered e-mails the past year or so.
I met Howard in 1995 at the Common Boundary Conference and we instantly became comrades.
He came to Palm Springs and led a men’s retreat sharing his experience in Ecotherapy.
We still honor him annually with a silent nature walk, reading and meditation.Next years event will hold a special memorial in his honor.
I visited him in Santa Barbara and was blessed to contribute to his revision of “Counselling..the Alcoholic”
Shortly after,he sent a man to me who changed my life.
I will always remember him for his gentle modesty and boyish demeanor.
I feel really sad,as though I’ve lost an uncle.
    Shalom,My friend,Shalom!
