Rotweiler in Rome

Well, it has happened, and I am neither surprised nor happy.

Joseph “God’s rotweiler” Ratzinger is now Benedict XVI, and I wonder how emboldened America’s theocrats — Catholic or not — will be at his elevation.

The only up side I can see (personally) is that I’m not as torn as those Catholics who feel even more alienated.

Of course, as the spiritual head of about a fifth of the world’s people, non-Catholics won’t be exempt from his reign. Yippee.

Later. 7:25 pm. The Protestant end of the blogosphere is already abuzz. UCC seminarian Chuck Currie relays United Church of Christ president John Thomas’s apprehension about Benedict’s elevation. Others (here and here, for instance) suggest this is the time for Catholics to jump ship.
