With the departure of the Canadian congregations to make the Canadian Unitarian Council (CUC) autonomous, I think UUA watchers suspected it was just a matter of time before some of the northerly US districts started merging.
Well it happened, but I hadn’t heard anything about it. New Hampshire/Vermont and Northeast Districts — the later reduced to only serving Maine — have voted to become one. More than a month ago.
The announcement begins thusly:
The New Hampshire Vermont District of Unitarian Universalist Societies and the Northeast District of the Unitarian Universalist Association have both voted overwhelmingly to consolidate into one new district, whose name will be chosen by Oct 1st, 2007. On April 14th, 2007, the NH-VT District voted unanimously to consolidate. And the Northeast District vote on April 28th was also a landslide, 58-to-6, in favor of consolidation. This commits both districts to consolidate effective July 1st, 2008 and authorizes the districts’ officers to take whatever steps are necessary to make that happen.
See the NH/VT district and NED sites. There is also a naming contest; I propose Northern New England District, but that’s hardly original.
This follows consolidations that in recent years created the Clara Barton and Heartland districts. The Western Canada district disappeared in CUC autonomy.

Seriously, it is interesting but somewhat difficult to read.
Interesting find though, times.. they are a changin’
Looks fine from here — what operating system and browser are you reading it from?
Scott – It also looks huge from here. I’m on a Mac using the Safari browser. I also checked from Jason’s PC, which used Internet Explorer, and your fonts also look HUGE!!!!
I’m even getting phone calls about the huge fonts. Still not seeing it, but will change back until I can tell the problem. Thanks all.
