The fact that delegates make the final choice of priorities in Plenary VIII speaks to one of my concerns about democratic process.
Delegates have five votes, which may distributed or used en bloc. Does anyone know what voting model will be used to sift the decisions? Approval? Instant run-off? Condorcet? Something else?
Not sure Scott. I’ll find out. It’s got to be something more efficient than sticker dots…
I was surprised that in the Open Space sessions we generated topics and then 12 were picked out of a hat to “move on” to the next step in the process. Many people I spoke with thought a random selection was counter to the process. What if the best idea, the innovation we need, didn’t get pulled from the hat?
Note that this has already morphed into a pseudo open space process…
I understand the ones not pulled from a hat could still be used provided people self-organized around them (in the hall?)
But I don’t know if that would have registered with the participants, since it would be new to the way we do things (if not new to people in other pursuits.)
