Andrew Sullivan lays out the sickening details following the admission of former CIA torture advocate John Kiriakou: what torture is (again), what the threats weren't and who knew and approved of torture. Read here and here. President Bush must be held accountable. Congress: where are you?
Part of me expects no just resolution, but Christians live in hopeful expectation, so I will try to be patient and persistent. Decent and vigilant people (of whatever faith or none) must remain resolved to the proposition that torture (and indefinite detention) corrupts the foundations of freedom, privileges secrecy and corruption, brutalizes the populus and surrenders our goodwill and dignity for a dubious promise of safety and ease.
No, a continuing no to torture.
Lord have mercy.
