The Sunday-only calendar

PeaceBang asked for a Sundays-only calendar template. Here’s my first draft: both as a PDF and ODS, the later a spreadsheet that can be read and written in Google Docs and LibreOffice, besides other commercial spreadsheet applications.

New for 2024.. I’m amazed this blog post still gets a lot of readers, and requests! You can also edit the ODS file in LibreOffice and (so it seems) newer versions of Microsoft Office. I have included December 2023 and January 2025. (Firefox still throws security warning when I downloaded the ODS, but it is what it says it is.)

(I have some liturgical calendars from prior years which need updating; I’ll add these, too, when I’ve edited them.)

  1. Every year I easily create one on a spreadsheet. Just enter two or three Sundays in Column A, and then grab the corner and drag down for 52 cells, and there you go. Then I go back and artificially enter a row for Christmas Eve.

The hard part is the next column I work on, which is a calendar of holidays. I use a world religion calendar online and plug in the dates I think most important from that. Then I look up lists of recognition months — African American History Month (Feb.), Women’s History Month (Mar.), and so on. Then I add in the Season for Nonviolence, because this church has a history of recognizing that. Then National holidays — Thanksgiving, Memorial Day, etc. Then Coming Out Day, Earth Day, and some other holidays that don’t appear on the other lists. Then I try to think of important UU dates, but don’t have a good source for those, and 50th and 100th anniversaries we might want to recognize. This year coming up holds the 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights march from Selma, for example, and the deaths of James Reeb and Viola Liuzzo.

I’m nearly done with my 2014-2015 calendar. Will e-mail it to you, if you’d like.
