I’m thinking though useful ways for online meetings, but wanted to first know if you, dear readers, use instant messaging? And if you do, do you use it through a browser, a desktop client (program) or your phone? Or any or all of these? And if a desktop client, which one?

iChat, almost exclusively for work.
I use Pidgin as a desktop client, as it nicely bundles all my accounts together. However, I don’t chat often.
