Second Sunday of Advent preparation

All those weeks after Pentecost and then I let the first Sunday in Advent slip my me. Bad blogger! But I’ve got the propers for the first and second Sunday in Advent below.

First Sunday of Advent

Free Church Book of Common Prayer (1929)

Almighty God, give us grace that we may cast away the works of darkness, and put upon us the armour of light, now in the time of this mortal life, in which thy Son Jesus Christ came to visit us in great humility; tat in the last day, when he shall come again in his glorious Majesty to judge both the quick and the dead, we may rise to the life immortal, through him who liveth and reigneth with the and the Holy Ghost, now and forever. Amen.

¶ The above Collect may be used after the other Collects every day in Advent until Christmas Eve. The following Collect may be said on Advent Sunday instead of or in addition to the foregoing.

The Preparation of the Patriarchs.

O God, the God of our fathers, who in thy wonderful providence hast made all ages a preparation for the kingdom of thy Son; we thank thee for the morning light which thou didst cause to shine in the holy patriarchs; and we beseech thee to make ready our hearts for the brightness of thy glory, and the fulness of thy blessing in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen.

Epistle: Rom. xiii, 11-14 (end).
Gospel: Matt. xxi, 1-13.

Amen.
